Fans Furious At Article That Spins Jeremy Clarkson’s Words About Sabine Schmitz
The respect that surrounded Sabine Schmitz was palpable, with endless fans applauding the life of the Queen of the Nurburgring after her passing last month. In fact, she was so loved that The Grand Tour’s Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May returned to Top Gear to express their feelings and show their respect to the German racing driver.
During this 30-minute special episode, Clarkson described what it was like when he first met Sabine:
“The first time she ever took me round the Nurburgring she just humiliated me and was rude,” he joked.
“She was extremely critical of me, hurtfully so. She had many observations to make about my driving and none of them were kind.”
Now, we know that Clarkson had great respect for Sabine, and Sabine had great respect for Clarkson, with them working together countless times on Top Gear. But Express.co.uk spun this quote to make it look as though Clarkson was complaining and speaking negatively of Sabine:
“Jeremy Clarkson said Sabine Schmitz was ‘rude’ and ‘humiliated’ him in first Top Gear meet”
I’ve produced content for websites for five years now and understand that headlines do need to be worded in a way someone will want to click on it. This, unfortunately, is a necessary evil and a reflection of the competition on the web and the weird way social media/Google algorithms work. But this is completely disrespectful to Sabine Schmitz and Jeremy Clarkson, who meant no harm in what he said.
Fans, like me, were furious by how this article was headlined:

I wouldn’t wipe my a$$ with the Express (or any other gutter press rag). It and the Daily Fail sold out years ago. Clickbait at its lowest.
it’s called “Yellow Journalism”, used to be prevalent in under developed nations, but Murdoch media perfected it in 1st world nations.
The rememberence was full of love and respect. We all know Jezza has an inflated ego. This was his loving way of saying she was one of the few who brought him down to earth and reminded him he was mearly mortal and he respected her for that. Sabine is now giving rides in heaven and has probably already made Jesus hurl his cookies.
Am so shocked to hear this JC comments was speaking truly about when the #QueenoftheRing had to endure JC’s terrible lack of driving skills considering he had been a motoring journalist for the majority of his career. I recommend that everyone cancels their subscription to the Express and stops buying the newspaper in respect of #QueenoftheRing she was such a great racing driver and an awesome woman who very unfortunately was taken far too soon. My sincerest condolences to her family and extended family of the motor racing industry and fans, very so missed with out any doubt. #RIPSabineSchmitzQueenoftheRing x

Having read quite a few “articles” from the Express lately, I’ve come to the conclusion they their so-called journalists haven’t got a qualification between them. They print complete horseshit.
What do expect. It was the Express, the home of gutter journalism
The Express is basically a Jazz Mag for angry racist Brexiteers.
As an example as to how love and respect for a true racing legend can be twisted into apparent approbrium, the crass, shoddy, journalism here has no equal.
actually, competition can be won by quality and image (as in “your public image as a reliable source”). Fake News journalism isn’t a requirement for survival. Click bait headlines are fake news journalism.
Simply ban sources with click bait headlines from your news aggregators.
That said, more articles like this could help educating today’s badly informed web users. Well done.
The writer was clearly ignorant of JC’s style of hyperbole, often extremely wild, plus he would often act as Devils’ Advocate, tongue in cheek. Patently obvious what he was doing.
What do you expect from the Express? Look at what else they publish..Standby for more of the same following HRH The Prince Phillip’s death.

Express Newspapers have been worthless, untrustworthy, unreliable, unethical trash for years now. They abandoned journalism for misleading clickbait, and clearly have zero ambition to be a reputable news source. It’s a sad end for what was once a real newspaper, but it died a good while ago. I understand the changed news landscape of the 21st century was a challenge for traditional newspapers, but this is beyond the worst practices of the tabloids at their peak.
I can’t put an exact date on it, it may coincide with the company being bought out. The new owners are just cynically cashing in on the name, spewing fake news and BS without any attempt at ethical journalism. They clearly don’t care about anything other than clicks and spamming adverts.

The respect shown by all the presenters towards Sabine was obvious and her joy at being part of the team palpable. It was an excellent tribute.
