Jeremy Clarkson’s Neighbour Legally Challenged Clarkson’s Farm Expansion Plans

We saw some of Jeremy Clarkson’s battles with the council during the first season of Clarkson’s Farm. With the highly-anticipated second season coming soon, we are sure to see many more.

The council had issues with the roof of Clarkson’s newly built shop in the first season but we saw that he was able to eventually get agreement after some changes. Clarkson’s next venture was the addition of a restaurant on Diddly Squat Farm.

The plans for the 60-seater restaurant with a 70 space car park did not go down well with the local community, receiving 33 objections. One neighbour in particular legally challenged the application, saying that the local area will become ruined with tourist traffic.

The Grand Tour host’s neighbour, Hamish Dewar, who has lived in the Cotswolds village for over twenty years, told The Mirror:

“I think people are quite wary of expressing their opinions because Clarkson tends to respond in his column in the Sunday Times.

“I think that means people are quite reluctant to speak out.

“He’s written about me in the Sunday Times, calling me a busybody and a moron. He also described the chairman of the parish council in a very rude manner.”

Hamish continued:

“The concern is [Chadlington] is an area of outstanding natural beauty. If he gets permission for this restaurant, the amount of traffic will have a significant impact on the village.

“[Currently] there is very little to come and look at. But if there is a restaurant and a bar with an alcohol licence until 11pm at night, there is going to be many more cars coming into the village.”

Although Clarkson received some local backlash, members of the agricultural world have thanked the former Top Gear host for giving more publicity to the industry.

Luckily for Clarkson, after finding some loopholes, he has been able to open a restaurant on the farm, but not what he originally applied for. We are set to see the ins and outs in the upcoming season of the show, which is due to be released early 2023.
