Richard Hammond Has Bought The Grand Tour’s Buick Riviera From The Scotland Special

In a new video on the DriveTribe YouTube channel, Richard Hammond reveals that he’s purchased the Buick Riviera from the fan-favourite Scotland Grand Tour special that was released last year. The ‘Loch Down’ episode featured three American land yachts, but as Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard drove them across the gorgeous setting of Scotland, Richard fell in love with his.

During the episode he modified it with a large rear wing, a supercharger, and a number of other small changes, and now it’s sat in the presenter’s warehouse, the home of his business The Smallest Cog. In the video, Hammond tried to revive the car which has been sat for a number of months, but on the first crank it doesn’t sound so happy.

Sat in the car, he says:

“It’s funny, when you spend enough time in a car, especially if you’re lucky enough to go on adventures in them liek I do, then you don’t get in that car for a long time…

“Then when you get back in, the whole experience envelopes you once again.

“Although there’s every chance the headlining might envelope me because it appears to be falling off.”

He looks around the car with a worried look on his face:

“Yeah, this cars needs some love.”

The second and third crank see no luck either, so Hammond relinquishes his place behind the wheel to his trusty business partner. With his “magic touch”, the engine gives us some signs of life, but it looks as though it’s out of fuel.

So while Hammond’s team get some petrol (or liquid gold as we’re now calling it in the UK), he asks the viewers a very simple question: what would you do with the car? A restoration? A rat rod? Drag car?

Let us know in the comments as we’re very interested to hear about what you’d like Hammond and his men to turn this Buick into.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]

  1. Do not destroy it, retro restrore , new underpinnings from modern Buick with a new modern eight speed transmission. New LS motor really sweet custom interior and a really sweet original color paint job

  2. For starters, I would give this new raised white lettering tires. The color is retro so keep that. And finally, air fresheners. Lots of air fresheners. Oh, and gasoline.
