Richard Hammond Hits Grand Tour Script Writer: “Completely Killed Me!”
In the new episode of The Grand Tour, James May, Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson put their skills to the test in one of their most thrilling races yet. In Carnage A Trois, Richard embraces his stereotype and smashes into a fellow member of The Grand Tour team as they race a number of French cars on track.
In this tribute to France’s deep racing heritage, the ex-Top Gear presenters raced a number of iconic French hot hatches alongside a few members of the team that aren’t usually found on camera, one being script editor Richard Porter.
Richard took to the wheel of a Peugeot 205, Jeremy a Peugeot 306 GTi 6, and James the brilliant Renault Clio 172 Cup, a personal favourite of ours here at GTN. They were joined by their famous racing driver Abbie Eaton, a French member of their production team, and the aforementioned Richard Porter.
Of course, the drivers couldn’t begin until they consumed a lengthy lunch and drank some red wine, which is fitting since the race is inspired by France. With full stomachs and a slight wobble, they began their race once more, but this time the game was on for Porter and Hammond specifically who hit each other with force.
“Richard Hammond will now be moaning about a lack of horsepower!” Jeremy said, just as Hammond started to complain about his lack of horsepower:
“I am down on power, I only have 104 brake horsepower.”
At this point, Porter hit his car at full pelt, spinning his car around completely.
“Porter completely killed me!” Richard shouted.
“That was a very French move from the scriptwriter there.”
He managed to get back onto the track where he continued his race.
James was equally shocked to find their French assistant Marguerite overtaking him as she swore inside her cabin.
“I should point out that Marguerite’s never really done this before,” he told the camera. “So she is a natural French lunatic.”
The full race can be seen on the new episode, Carnage A Trois, which is currently available on Amazon Prime Video.
