The Grand Tour: Jeremy Clarkson Reveals How Much Was Cut From Scotland Special ‘Lochdown’
In an interview with Grand Tour Nation and other press, Jeremy Clarkson has revealed the staggering amount of content that’s left on the cutting room floor from the upcoming Scotland Special, Lochdown. But while fans would love to see the what has been left out, Jeremy assures us that there’s a “good reason” for it not to see the light of day.
The Grand Tour Presents… Lochdown sees Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May travel across Scotland in three large American cars to test just how easily these cars can adapt to UK soil. Fans are very excited to see the upcoming episode, but as the content output has been severely reduced from a whole series each year to just a couple of episodes (for a number of reasons), it’s no surprise that viewers will be disappointed when they hear that there are clips not included in the final edit.
Grand Tour Producer Confirms Location Of Episode Following ‘Lochdown’ After “Facing Some Difficulties”
Jeremy discussed this in an interview when asked about deleted scenes… “Inevitably. Our shooting ratio is off the charts. I think the average shooting ratio for a TV show these days is 12:1/ For everything one minute, 11 get thrown away.”
He goes on to guess that a show from David Attenborough is probably closer to 500:1. “For obvious reasons, you know, he spends 499 hours waiting for a polar bear to come out.”
Then he reveals something very shocking: “But ours is a massive shooting ratio. It’s like 1200:1,” Clarkson admits before going on to explain why:
“As Andy Wilman, our producer, always says, that’s how rubbish the three of us are. We have to throw away 1199 hours to get one good one. So lots of stuff ends up on the cutting floor. Lots of it does.”
He goes on to say that “most of it doesn’t get shown for a very good reason,” but he doesn’t explain exactly what that reason is.
The Grand Tour Presents… Lochdown will arrive on Amazon Prime Video on July 30.
I’ve loved every moment from the three of them and the team that to the most part we don’t see. (apart from “The American”)
I’ve seen previous deleted scenes that have been shown that some are stupendous at times but can see why they may have been cut from the final show, and if that is the ratio for recording I’m not overly surprised as no matter who you are, if you was being recorded consistently I don’t believe one person in the world wouldn’t say at least one unpopular or controversial comment no matter who you are or where you come from. Keep it up fellas your the only reason I pay for amazon!
