The Grand Tour

The Grand Tour Tech: Jeremy Clarkson’s Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Lap in VR 360

There’s awesome car videos, and then there’s AWESOME car videos. As the owner of a Gear VR headset, one of my favorite things to do in my downtime is to watch VR car videos. A favorite of mine is the Red Bull Formula One drive-along. Now The Grand Tour has brought audiences along with a ride alongside Jeremy himself in the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider.

Check out the video below as you ride alongside Jeremy during his hot lap at the end of Episode 5. As with any virtual reality video, be prepared for a certain amount of motion sickness, especially in the beginning as you’re still trying to get situated.

You can watch YouTube 360 videos on your mobile device without a VR headset by simply using your finger to pan around the video as its playing, but where the fun in that? You’re going to want to get yourself a pair of VR goggles, and if you know where to look, they can be had for extremely cheap. My Gear VR is great, but it’s pricey and only compatible with the more recent Samsung phones.

Compatible headsets include:

– Google Cardboard
– Samsung Gear VR
– LG 360 VR
– Dodocase P2
– and many more!
(HTC Vive and Oculus Rift aren’t compatible with YouTube 360 without a third party app.)

Cars, the Buffalo Bills, video games, comics, sandwiches, jelly beans, and the shooting star press; these are the things that Tony loves (in addition to his family, of course). When he's not spending his time writing tech reviews for theslanted.com, Tony puts his lifetime love of muscle cars to use on his 2015 Mustang GT. Tony's top three favorite cars are the 1973 Mustang Mach 1, Ferrari 458, and Aston Martin DBS.
