The Stig Reviews The Coveted BMW E60 M5 With Its 500HP V10 Engine

With The Grand Tour moving on from lap times and car reviews, and Top Gear moving away from using the Stig, it’s great to see Ben Collins (Top Gear’s original Stig) being involved more and more with DriveTribe as the company moves further into the video space.

In the latest video, he drives and reviews presenter Mike Fernie’s coveted BMW E60 M5, and thoroughly enjoys the powerful and linear V10 engine as well as the controlled chassis.

This specific M5 was written off due to a small fire in the rear of the car, but after a dyno run last episode, Mike found that while it’s supposed to be producing 507 horsepower, it actually made more despite its age. Add on a carbon fibre air intake, and it’s not pushing 518 horsepower. That’s not half bad for a V10 that’s supposed to be one of the most unreliable on the market.

The Stig drove the car during Top Gear where it wasn’t the most reliable of cars according to Jeremy Clarkson, but still put down a 1:26.2 second lap time. This put it ahead of the Lotus Exige by 0.2 seconds, and two tenths behind the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8 MR.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
