Watch Abbie Eaton Pilot A Porsche 911 Turbo S Around Silverstone In Latest ‘Track Mode’ Episode

Abbie Eaton and Jorge Calado return to another episode of Track Mode, and this time they take to Silverstone in the legendary Porsche 911 Turbo S, which has just had a revamp for 2021.

But Track Model isn’t necessarily about the car. Instead, it acts as a window into the history and layout of each track that’s featured, and throughout the episode, these experienced racing drivers talk us through each of the 18 corners it boasts.

Silverstone’s History

The episode kicks off with the history of what is arguably the UK’s most popular and well-known circuit, beginning with its humble start to life as an RAF base. However, 1947 brought something new to the area’s airstrips when Maurice Geoghegan and a few of his mates got sloshed and raced around the tarmac.

This eventually evolved into the Mutton Grand Prix after a too-close-a shave with a sheep. With the RAC also getting involved, the first official Grand Prix was held the next year.

Track Layout With Abbie And Jorge

Before we know it we’re sat in the car with Abbie and Jorge as they give us a sighting lap around the British track, and with bits of history woven into the video, we get to see what really makes a fast lap.

It’s safe to say the Porsche is a real weapon as it threads its way through the corners and aligns its handling systems to pull in its front wheels. Both Abbie and Jorge are very impressed with the car, but show their dislike of the loss of Bridge. “It’s now a picnic area” Jorge complains.

The Silverstone Track Guide

Now’s the good part, as Jorge gives us a walkthrough of how to extract the best lap times from the circuit with Abbie focussing behind the wheel. The sound of the German supercar howling as it accelerates and eats up the tarmac is exhilarating and addictive, and makes me want to take my 350Z out as soon as possible.

Alex Harrington

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
