The Grand Tour Episode 4: Enivro-mental Through Amazon X-Ray Trivia
Greetings and welcome back to the 4th week of The Grand Tour! On this weeks episode we were very pleased to see the beautiful 911 GT3 RS and the BMW M4 GTS. Also we were all taught that mud, poo, bricks, sticks and raw meat do not make very reliable vehicles….who’d have thought??
Let’s go see what Amazon’s X-Ray has to teach us this week.
What is General Trivia and where can you find it?
For those of you who watch The Grand Tour on the television, (like myself), Xbox or other means other than computer, (or I’ve heard tablets as well), you may have missed out on Amazon’s “X-Ray.” X-Ray provides General Trivia facts about the cars, track, places, crew and all sorts of things about The Grand Tour and everything involved, so for those that missed it here is X-Ray General Trivia for Episode 4!
Scene 1:The Intro
Week 4 and we are back in the UK for the second week in a row! However this week’s quest isn’t at all in any shape or form like last weeks.
General Trivia Starts at 0:00:00
Jeremy Clarkson: Writer, broadcaster, speaking enthusiast.
Scene 2: Intro
Interesting tidbit – The intros have a sign with one of the presenters names misspelled, looks like it’s Germy’s this week (haha!)
General Trivia Starts at 0:00:04
Richard Hammond: Writer, broadcaster, dapper chap.
Scene 2: Annnnd it’s More Intro
It’s been said that these 3 lovely cars broke down a few times during the shooting of this intro. Overheating being one of the biggest problems.
General Trivia Starts at 0:00:14
James May: Writer, broadcaster, comfortable silence.

Scene 3: Hallo!
The boys greeting another excited crowd. Jeremy being himself, (funny and strange).
General Trivia Starts at 0:01:19
When he says hello at the start of this show, Jeremy seems to have turned into a certain Team America character. Mmm, movie references.
Scene 3: Whitby Review
So apparently Whitby is packed full of young-uns with noisy cars driving like maniacs. Sounds like a fun place to me.
General Trivia Starts at 0:03:41
Chav – A British word, sort of like the American expression ‘white trash’. But also sort of not like that. It’s not a very nice word and you probably shouldn’t use it in polite company. Eg “Hello! Are you a chav?” You’ll get punched in the nose.
Scene 4: The Porsche!
Jeremy’s opening for this 911, a Bug….haha poor picked on Richard. Anyways, here we are, the 911 GT3 RS. Mmmmmm
General Trivia Starts at 0:06:37
Porsche 911 GT3 RS. 4-litre flat six, 500 horsepower, 0-62 in 3.3 seconds, top speed; 193mph.

Scene 4: Action Shots
“The hottest, hardest, tightest 911 of them all” – Jeremy. I agree 100%
General Trivia Starts at 0:06:46
The vents over the front wheels on the Porsche 911 GT3 RS double the amount of downforce over the front axle, balancing the mighty rear downforce of that massive rear wing.
Scene 4: Stickers?
Yup, these and a few others are indeed stickers, but hell you’re in a GT3 RS, who cares??
General Trivia Starts at 0:08:37
The badges on the Porsche 911 GT3 RS are actually stickers to save weight. Because, as we know, normal badges weigh a ton.
Scene 4: The Mighty M4
The 911 GT3 RS competition…or is it? Two 500 horsepower machines. Two track built monsters.
General Trivia Starts at 0:10:01
BMW M4 GTS. 3-litre, twin turbo straight six, 500 horsepower, 0-62 in 3.8 seconds, top speed; 190mph.

Scene 4: Water Injection is “Cool”
Jeremy explains to us what water injection is and honestly it’s pretty nifty. His watering methods though…spot on.
General Trivia Starts at 0:11:56
Nerd alert: The water injection system on the BMW M4 GTS works by injecting water into the engine intkae where it vapourises, cooling down the internal combustion process so you can run a higher compression ratio and more boost without risk of the engine exploding.
Scene 4: An Icon
Jeremy gives a grand description of the steering wheel…and the rest of the BMW as well.
General Trivia Starts at 0:12:17
Ron Jeremy – An ‘adult’ film actor famous for his very big steering wheel.
Scene 5: The American…
He’s back….again. This time he takes the BMW M4 GTS ’round the Eblodrone and makes jokes. No, really, he does….
General Trivia Starts at 0:16:14
The American: Not allowed back into that Arby’s

Scene 6: Ford Gt
Ford’s new GT. Twin turbo 6 cylinder, rear drive beauty! Jeremy seems to like this one, though he seems a bit skeptic…
General Trivia Starts at 0:19:39
In 2005 Jeremy Clarkson bought one of 27 Ford GT’s officially imported to the UK. He sold it shortly afterwards.
Scene 6: On to the Journey!
Alright, let the journey begin! Three hand made “environmental friendlier” Land Rover’s and a small trip. What can go wrong?
General Trivia Starts at 0:23:31
Nerd alert: The 1989-2004 Land Rover Discovery has a separate chassis so you can remove the body and it still works without risk of the engine and all the suspension falling out.
Scene 7: Hitchhiker.
It appears that Richard picked up a little buddy along the way. It’s a hedgehog! They should call him Sonic…heh.
General Trivia Starts at 0:31:13
Jeremy and Richard are quoting the lyrics to Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. Mmm, music references.

Scene 7: Good Boy
As Jeremy adds new bits to his vehicle, a pup’s curiosity is peaked and appetite satisfied.
General Trivia Starts at 0:33:52
The dog in the sustainable cars film is a border collie. They’re a breed much seen in Welsh villages and used for rounding up sheep. This one was called Pepper.
Scene 8: He Fits!
Here we learn how to smuggle someone into whichever country you’re from. I’d suggest a car a bit bigger than an Audi TT though…not that I would ever smuggle.
General Trivia Starts at 0:39:15
Jeremy’s amazing car concealment plan was inspired by a news story about a man who really did smuggle himself inside the bumper of a small Renault.
Scene 9: Hay Fever? Poor Choice of Windscreen?
Richard and Jeremy head back to see if James has mended his Land Rover. Seems like he may be doing a bit more damage to the environment then he is good.
General Trivia Starts at 0:43:37
Jeremy doesn’t just suffer from hay fever. He also says cats give him asthma. Useful info, if you ever need to get him out of your house.

Scene 9: He’s a Pro
The boys attempt a river crossing with the experienced Richard as lead. Of course he’s a pro and shows them how it’s done.
General Trivia Starts at 0:47:10
Richard owns several old Land Rovers and this makes him very keen on off-roading. Other things he is keen on include mopping up puddles of oil and shouting, ‘Start you bastard’.
Scene 9: Being Resourceful
Here they take a break and wait for James, again, and they use bits of their creations to help cook the meal. Richard is not impressed with the meat.
General Trivia Starts at 0:50:19
Richard stopped eating red meat shortly after the sustainable cars film was made.
Scene 9: Oh James
James’ new design isn’t, well, the most reliable for stability and once again it fails. It is quite hilarious to watch, and their laughter is contagious.
General Trivia Starts at 0:53:30
Sometimes during the filming of The Grand Tour, the amount of riotous, spontaneous laughter has to be cut down in the edit. Otherwise, the programme would be five hours long.

Scene 9: The Smell
Jeremy’s vehicle of death has been exposed to a bit much of sun light and has gotten to the unbearable smell point. Even got a tech crew member to be sick. Gross.
General Trivia Starts at 0:54:25
Jeremy’s sustainable car smelt so bad that no one on the team would go near it unless absolutely necessary.
Scene 10: Yobbo
The boys take to a race track to test their abominations creations against metal bodied vehicles.
General Trivia Starts at 0:55:32
Yobbos – a quaint old English word for noisy morons.
Scene 10: Fire!
The conclusion. Environmentally friendly vehicles just don’t work, specially ones made of sticks, mud and meat. On a side note, ‘heads up James’!
General Trivia Starts at 1:00:57
At the end of the sustainable cars film, the cameras just missed the fire hose hitting James square in the face.
Episode 4 under wraps! Beautiful track minded cars, sharp jabs at…unnamed sources, laughter and three trucks made comepletly differently, three trucks that failed at being what they were supposed to be. We wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Now let’s go test what we’ve learned today!
