Jeremy Clarkson Opens Up About Top Gear Scene That Left Him Running

Top Gear and Grand Tour fans have witnessed the three musketeers take on a whole host of daring feats over the years. While these antics are obviously very well thought out by producers, it takes nothing away from the amount of enjoyment they have provided to millions across the world – but now, Jeremy Clarkson has spoken out about one particular scene which left him running away from the scene as fast as he could.

While the trio are now the faces of The Grand Tour, fans still fondly remember Clarkson, Hammond and May’s lengthy time on Top Gear – with Jeremy Clarkson recently speaking about one of Top Gears more dangerous events… setting a car wash on fire.

Yes we all remember it, the infamous episode where the three presenters tried to make a Renault Espace a convertible, which led them to take it to a car wash, which led the car wash to be set on fire in some rather dramatic scenes.

During the recent pub quiz which Clarkson featured on with DriveTribe, host Rachael Hogg quizzed the star:

“Do you remember blowing up a car wash with the convertible Renault Aspas? I used to work next door to that! It’s in Bedford and the car wash is still going strong.”

To which Clarkson lackadaisically responded:

“Is it really? I do remember extremely well – we set it on fire. I believe that’s the first incidents of [seeing] a car wash catching fire and then running bravely away.”

After he calmly joked about the fire they caused, he then spoke in detail with Rachael about what happened on that infamous shoot many years ago.

“No, it’s good. We’d been to Woburn Safari park, I think, just before that and a monkey had come… and we entered in the car wash – and those were the days when we were famous.”

Jeremy concluded how much he enjoyed the episode:

“Anyways, that was a good laugh, I enjoyed that one.”

Top Gear has had its fair share of wild antics over the year, but this is for sure one of the most memorable. We’re glad that the car wash was alright and is still doing well, they probably got a heap of cash from Top Gear as well as a whole load of cash from the BBC which may have helped too!
