Jeremy Clarkson Teases Review Of The BRX Hunter Dakar Rally Truck Potentially For The Grand Tour

In a recent Instagram post, Jeremy Clarkson has teased a review of the BRX Hunter Dakar Rally Truck. For those who don’t know what this thing is – you’re not the only one – it’s the love child of a World Rally Car and a Chieftan tank.

It’s a 2-tonne, 4-wheel-drive race car, that’s capable of traversing even the most difficult and dangerous terrain. Oh, and it can do it for at least three weeks straight, with it being built to take on the Dakar Rally that consists of 10,000km of deserts, mountains, rocks, and dirt.

It’s been built by Prodrive, a company behind three World Rally Championship wins, and have experience in Le Mans and even Formula 1, but this is a whole new ball game. This is built from the ground up, and sports a 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine from Ford that’s mated to two turbos that creates 400 horsepower and 500 lb ft. And while it looks like the motor is mounted in the rear, thos side intakes actually house the spare wheels. The engine is, in fact, hidden beneath the windscreen.

It’s limited to speeds of 112mph, and it’ll get there with Sebastian Loeb behind the wheel.

From the outside it’s a real looker. That’s down to Ian Callum’s design magic, as you can see especially in the rear of the car which looks very similar to that of the Jaguar F-Type, also penned by the famous designer.

The best bit is that this car is looking to start a new brand under the name of BRX, with the company not only looking for racing and military applications, but also a future as a road-legal production car.

So, are we going to see such a machine on The Grand Tour at the hands of Jeremy Clarkson, or even Richard Hammond or James May? Well, while I expect this will simply be featured in a column from the presenter, with The Grand Tour specials pushing more towards exploration and off-roading, this could be seen on a future epsiode.

Of course, with The Grand Tour moving from the standard Top Gear-esque reviews, we’re unlikely to see it on the Eboladrome or the like. But, it’s possible it may feature in one of the new special episodes.
