MKBHD Launches New Car Channel With Rivian R1T Featuring In First Video

There are countless tech YouTubers on the video platform, but MKBHD is the one we continue to come back to. Now, as if the stars h ave lined up in our favour, Marques Brownlee has started AutoFocus, a car-based YouTube channel. And his first video focusses on the famous Rivian R1T. In fact, it’s the same pickup truck we wrote about only yesterday as it was plunged headfirst into the sea to launch a boat.

This new channel, expertly named AutoFocus, will be Brownlee’s release for everything wheeled and engined (motored). And his first video follows him on his journey of living with the all-electric pickup truck.

The R1T is the perfect vehicle to escape onto the open road with while producing no tailpipe emissions along the way. It offers practicality, an amazing wading depth as we encountered yesterday, but despite its level of utility, still plenty of features that boost comfort.

MKBHD ordered the Tesla Cybertruck in 2020, but once he tested the R1T, he put in an order for that, too. And as expected, it has been delivered to the YouTuber before Elon Musk’s pickup has even started to be built.

Admitting that this truck is “better in a lot of ways,” Brownlee still wanted to highlight a number of things he’s uncovered while driving the thing.

Being behind the wheel of it for two weeks, he’s realised the truck gets plenty of attention when he’s on the road. He, like many others, loves the way the Rivian looks, but he realises not everyone will appreciate the eyes on them. He also brings attention to a number of other issues he’s identified – One being the lack of handle on the tailgate. The navigation also takes too long to load, and while there are plenty of cameras littered about the car’s exterior, there’s no feature for one to be used as a dashcam.

On top of this, he doesn’t like the fact the vents are operated only through the touch screen. There are a few other small niggles he has with the car, but one factor he’s really worrying about is the reliability of the automatic tonneau cover.

Yes, this sounds like there are lots of complaints from the YouTuber, but he is equally as complimentary about the truck, with him loving the truck overall.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
