Richard Hammond Feared For James May’s Life After Horror Grand Tour Crash
Richard Hammond, has recently spoken out about his co-star, James May’s, horrific crash on the latest Grand Tour special whilst appearing on Good Morning Britain.
The Grand Tour: A Scandi Flick was released in September on Prime Video. Viewers saw Jeremy Clarkson along with Hammond and May racing around Norway in their choice of a rally-inspired road car. One of the most talked about parts in the show was May’s awful crash which left him with a broken rib.
During an interview to promote his second series of Richard Hammond’s Workshop, Hammond was asked by Good Morning Britain hosts, Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley, how May was doing since the crash. Reid asked:
“And how is James doing after his crash? Because you are a veteran of frightening crashes, then James had a pretty nasty spin.”
Hammond responded, mocking his own poor track record of crashing:
“He has taken my crown and he is welcome to it”
After showing a clip of the crash, Reid asked:
“So explain to me what happened there?”
Madeley also asked:
“Not good for the brain inside the old skull there!”
Hammond responded, jokingly:
“Well there is plenty of room for it to rattle about in his case,”
Madeley wanted to clarify that May was alright, to which Hammond confirmed:
“Yeah he is fine, he is fine!
“It made him jump though, it made us all jump! I thought he had had it!”
As soon as footage and news of the crash came out, many fans were expressing their worry for the former Top Gear host on social media. May was quick to reassure his fans that he was ok, he wrote on his Twitter at the time:
“Thank you for all your kind comments and funny jokes re my crash, but it was a while back, not that bad, and I’m perfectly OK.
“Apologies to Evo fans for binning the VIII.” (sic)
