Richard Hammond Has Trouble With the New Honda Africa Twin

Richard Hammond and motorcycles…it’s a better love story than Jack and Rose. Muscle cars and V8s. Me and large sandwiches. Throughout the entirety of Top gear, Richard has made it well known that he has a great love for motorcycles, unlike his more “oafish” co-host. Today we bring you some footage of Hammond trying out the Honda Africa Twin.

Richard, of course, struggles with some height issues:

The clip was published to Richard’s DriveTribe Tribe (Hammond’s FOB Jockeys) two days ago. In the clip, Hammond attempts to mount the Africa Twin, which is a fairly tall off-road bike, while James watches in amusement.

“Ah yes, it’s a height thing…Honda lent us a new Africa Twin. I think this one is better suited to James, and not because it’s slow…”

The Africa Twin sits nearly 3 feet high, which with all due respect to Hammond, if you are “vertically challenged,” your in seam may not even have enough clearance get over the seat. The Africa Twin features a 980cc liquid cooled 4 stroke engine using a parallel-twin engine layout, meaning the bike is shorter in length form front to back. This makes the Africa Twin a tight, numble machine perfectly suited for off-road adventures.

That is, if you can get on the bike. And you might not even be safe once you’re all the way on, as Hammond shows us.

Thanks to Auto Evolution for the heads up!
