Richard Hammond On Lavish Present For Wife That Didn’t Go To Plan

The Grand Tour host, Richard Hammond, recently gave a tour of his garage on the DriveTribe YouTube channel. During the tour, Hammond revealed a gift he bought his wife, Mindy, for her 40th birthday which cost him a small fortune just to be left gathering dust.

Whilst touring the garage, Hammond pointed to a blue Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 Low and explained:

“That is my wife Mindy’s Harley. I bought it for her for her 40th birthday along with a direct access bike course.

“I won’t tell you how old that makes it, but it’s more than a year or two old. It’s done just shy of 200 miles. She didn’t take to biking.”

The former Top Gear host went on to confess that his aim of making his wife into a “fully paid-up bicker chick” did not go well.

Although Hammond did not reveal how much the bike cost him, similar models can range from £12,000-24,000.

Mindy wrote about the lavish gift in a column for Gloucestershire Live. She wrote to her readers:

“It’s beautiful, a work of art, but a bit pointless if I can’t ride it”

Mindy went on to explain that she would have preferred a “lazy day”, comparing her 40th birthday to her latest which she spent with their daughters, walking the dogs, mucking out the horses stables, and watching a film. Mindy wrote:

“There was nothing nicer than spending the day with my girls and, as we all know, the greatest gift anyone can give is their time,”

The rest of the tour teased Grand Tour and Top Gear fans with Hammond revealing that his next project is on the last car he drove for Top Gear, the MGB GT.

Hammond started a classic car restoration business roughly a year ago called The Smallest Cog. Discovery + programme, Richard Hammond’s Workshop, follows Hammond as he navigates his way through the business.
