Richard Hammond Reveals Insurance Issues With The Grand Tour: “We Lie”
Richard Hammond, has explained the issues with gaining insurance for The Grand Tour specials, especially after co-host James May’s awful crash on The Grand Tour: A Scandi Flick.
Speaking with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning, Hammond was asked by Schofield about how they can even get insurance anymore. Schofield asked:
“I can’t get my head around what sort of insurance paperwork, if any, you guys bother with. If we light a candle in here there has to be a risk assessment on the both of us and a fire warden with a bucket. So, how to do you manage to go to an old Cold War submarine base and race in the darkness down a tunnel and see if you can stop before the dead brick end?”
Hammond responded, jokingly:
“Um, largely we lie. Which is, you know, we say we’re not.”
“Our insurance did go up massively. I’ve done my part in pushing the insurance premiums up and now James May has taken on my role and he’s stolen my thing.”
