The Grand Tour: James May Finishes His £3 Million House Build

It’s taken a couple of years, but finally, James May of The Grand Tour fame has finished building, or rather upgrading his home in London, whilst combining two neighbouring properties.

Construction is very close to being finished, and when it is, the ex-top Gear presenter will have enough space for a number of cars, including a Tesla Model S, and Ferrari 458 Speciale, and a Porsche 911, and 40 motorbikes.

According to reports, he bought the home in 2000, bought the neighbouring house in 2016, and before the building started, demolished them to create a much larger house. Despite this sounding like an annoyance to the neighbouring homeowners, they have had lovely things to say about him, telling MailOnline the following:

“I couldn’t wish for a better neighbour than James. He is a delight and has involved us all at every step of the way.

His immediate neighbour Cathy Lewis added: “James has been really good and given us lots of information.

“This will be really good for our street, will be a big improvement on what was there before and the designs are sympathetic to the area.

“We know it will take a long time with a lot of disruption, but so far, the builders have been great. The new house will look fabulous.”

Originally, planning permission for the change was given in 2016, but since then many changes have been made to the project. On top of this, it’s taken a long time and a lot of work to make sure the house still blends in with the surrounding houses, built in the 1840s.

A builder said the following, according to the Sun:

“This is a massive job. It will take more than a year to finish, but we are making good progress. We are trying hard to be nice to the neighbours and James is a delight to work for.”

Nothing but good words about the presenter, but this is James May after all. What do we expect? Happy housing, James! Will he give us a grand tour of the inside soon?
