The BBC has kept a lot about the new series of Top Gear pretty hush hush, but we do at last know one thing for sure. Despite earlier speculation, the BBC has confirmed that they won’t have to find a new test track, for this season at least. This announcement follows rumors that Waverly Borough Council, the local government where the track is located in Surrey, would begin construction and leave the Top Gear crew homeless this season.

They probably shouldn’t give up their search for a new base of operations however, because, even though it won’t be happening now, plans have been approved for a large development. At some point in the future, Dunsfold Aerodrome will be converted into a housing development, consisting of 1800-2600 new homes. Given that this location has been home to Top Gear for well over ten years, the decision has been met with negativity from the show’s large fan base.
Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond (as well as several Stigs) weren’t the only famous faces to have driven around the track. Over the years, hundreds of celebrities from the extremely well-known to the slightly obscure have tried their luck on the segment “Star In A Reasonably Priced Car.” Hugh Jackman, Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Cameron Diaz, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Margot Robbie, to name a few. Even new Top Gear host Matt LeBlanc was a featured celebrity, not once, but twice!
Fortunately, for LaBlanc and the gang, their search shouldn’t be terribly difficult, considering the number of abandoned or disused airfields which litter the eastern and southern parts of England. Considering The Grand Tour managed to locate, secure, build, and test their new track, the “Eboladrome”, in less than a year, it should be easy for the BBC-backed Top Gear to find new digs.
