Jeremy Clarkson Witnessed Incredible Tom Cruise Moment: “Everyone Was Slightly Embarrassed”

During his days at Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson became one of the most famous presenters on the planet. And with the popular section of the show, ‘A Star in a Reasonably Priced Car’, Jeremy was shoved into the centre of fame and fortune as celebrities battled to show their skills on the famous test track with the Stig.

In a piece from Clarkson’s ex-wife Phillipa Sage for The Sun, she explains that she and Clarkson witnessed something “heroic” from Tom Cruise while he was joining Top Gear for that episode alongside Cameron Diaz for the celebrity interview section.

“I was lucky enough to meet Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz – both incredibly grounded people,” Sage wrote.

She then noted that Jeremy wasn’t sure how to refer to her in front of Cruise and Diaz:

“When Jeremy introduced me and was stumbling over his words as to what to call me – girlfriend, partner or whatever – I said I was his mother.

“They all roared with laughter.

“There was a classic Tom Cruise hero moment when a gust of wind took out a gazebo.”

She continued to recount his impressive reactions:

“As it lifted off, Tom was first on the scene pulling it back.

“It was one of those moments that kind of froze in time as we all stood back in slight shock that he would bother with such a menial but nevertheless heroic task.

“Everyone was slightly embarrassed that he’d reacted the quickest and got there first. He is a legend.”

Both actors had to leave soon after to attend a premiere of their new film Knight and Day in London, but Sage and the Top Gear team was elated to hear that they didn’t want to leave.

“That was an epic day in Top Gear history. The boys, their legendary producer Andy Wilman and the crew were so chuffed,” she wrote.

“They couldn’t quite believe that the show had achieved such a status that they could get A-listers to battle it out on track and not want to leave.”

Sage told Hertfordshire Life that she was a “PA, goffer and fixer” for Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May, and met her ex-husband while working with him on the BBC show. But after splitting in 2017, she went through a hard time.

“Jeremy was the love of my life and I thought it would be forever, but it wasn’t to be,” she explained to Hertfordshire Life before admitting she had the “worst breakdown ever” after the split.
