Mindy Hammond Is Not Happy With Richard But Is Glad He’s Home

Of course, being a presenter in a motoring show is an amazing thing. But as we well know, it comes with its rises and falls.

Hammond has had many rises – driving some amazing cars, travelling to amazing places, and doing some incredible things. Alongside these rises however, there are falls. His crash in 2006 being the one everyone remembers – possibly the scariest moment in Top Gear history.

His wife Mindy and children Izzy and Willow also remember it as the scariest moment in their lives, too – just read Mindy’s article to see just to what extent.

The article follows the events just after Hammond’s recent accident starting from when Mindy got the phone call from her husband in a Swiss stretcher.

She says, “none of us in our little family dare consider what the outcome would have been if Richard hadn’t scrambled his way out of that car last weekend.”

Richard severely underplayed his account of what transpired so as to keep her from worrying. Later on talking to James May, Mindy was given the full story. Her reaction, what any of us would do, was to hug Izzy who she was with at the time, take care of her, and buy endless amounts of chocolate – a rarity for the family, apparently.

It wasn’t long before they were home and transport to Switzerland had been arranged for Mindy to see her husband in the Swiss Hospital.

“He’ll be a terrible patient when he gets home,” Mindy said, “and will drive me nuts (I’m terrified whenever he attempts to walk with his crutches) but honestly, I can’t wait to see him hug his dog and sit in the garden shouting for his glasses, laptop, phone or a cup of tea!”

Again, even more evidence to show just how loving a family they are.

“Most of us are fortunate to escape looking death in the face. Richard has done it twice – and that’s two times too many.

” although honestly, the lengths some people will go to just to get out of walking the dogs.”

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: alex@grandtournation.com
