First 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Sells For $3 Million At Auction
The very first 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, VIN #001, has just been bought for a jaw-dropping $3 million by NASCAR team owner and car collector Rick Hendrick from the Barrett-Jackson auction that took place last weekend.
The car is yet to be built, but will feature black on black exterior and interior colouring, the Z51 Performance Package, and 3LT trim. On top of that it will the performance recorder and GT2 seats. I have a feeling this won’t be kept in a garage somewhere quiet…
The auction, as you can tell, went very successfully with GM chief executive Mary Barra attending the event alongside a display-only Torch Red Corvette. Bidding quickly rocketed from the starting value of $200,000, through $1 million, and $2 million, before finally reaching $3 million. Hendrick, the winning bidder, has a history of buying the first of a car, with a large collection of iconic vehicles in his care.

Not long ago he spent $2.5 million on the first 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition, but also owns the first 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, the first 2017 Acura NSX, the first C7 Corvette Stingray, the first C7 Z06, and the first C7 ZR1. He’s a serial offender as you can see (with very good taste in cars).
The millions of dollars won’t be going to Chevrolet. Instead it will go to the Detroit Childrens’ Fund which aims to improve public education in the city of American muscle.
“I am the number one Corvette junkie in the world,” said Hendrick after the auction. “Thanks to Chevrolet and Barrett-Jackson, because they always pick charities that are so good and help so many people.”
