Tesla Model S Beats Taycan’s Record Around Nurburgring And Apparently More To Come
A specially modified Tesla Model S has apparently beaten the record the Porsche Taycan recently set on the legendary Nurburgring this week. This Model S was equipped with a new performance package called ‘Plaid’, which upgrades the electric saloon with another motor, bringing the total to three. Power and range figures are unknown.
This ‘Plaid’ powered Tesla slaughtered the Taycan’s record with a time of just 7:23, almost 20 seconds faster than Porsche’s first attempt at an all-electric car. The prototype will, according to Musk, set an official ‘Ring time next year. Yep, that’s right, this isn’t an official ‘Ring time due to it being a modified car and not a production-ready model.
The ‘Plaid’ car is fitted with 7 seats and tri-motors, with its name stemming from popular sci-fi film Spaceballs. This therefore means that it hasn’t officially beaten the Taycan’s record as that was a production-ready car at the time. But Musk isn’t worried.

The man behind the wheel of this prototype was not Nico Rosberg, as previously teased on Twitter, but was the VLN endurance championship driver and proven Green Hell master Thomas Mutsch.
As Musk stated, we’re looking at an October or November release for the new powertrain, so there’s plenty more information to come.
