This Fordzille Hypervan Should Be The Future Of Grand Tour Motor Racing
Let’s think about this. What made the MFB Bentley Continental GTV8 so good during the Grand Tour Madagascar Special? It was an expensive car with plenty of power and damn big off-road wheels. Um… Yeah, that’s pretty much it.
So when I saw this buggy concept named the Fordzilla Hypervan, I couldn’t help but write about it and question whether this would be the go-to choice for anyone looking to go on a similar level of Grand Tour.
What’s the deal then?
This Hypervan was created by designer Keyu Deng, an automotive design student who loves the latest tech and wants to use this to inspire himself to create great looking cars. He’s done just that, with this futuristic buggy looking like something Verstappen could be racing in the 2040s.
His own objective was to “create an exciting gaming vehicle and experience that introduces the Ford brand to a new generation.” To me, it looks like something that armour-clad racing drivers would pelt through rough terrain while leaning out of the all-glass doors to drop a mine or shoot laser beams at the car in front. It’s all very Mad Max… but 100 years in the future.
It has a positive rake angle making it look like it’s already travelling at high speeds before you even sit in the thing, and its sleek, aerodynamic body matched with large wheels would easily lend itself to any type of racing, especially with such high ground clearance.
While it looks light and nimble, its utilitarian shape makes it look almost invulnerable to anything a drive through the awful roads of Madagascar would throw at it, especially with the spare tyre sat on the rear frame.
The interior is just as futuristic as the exterior, with modular seating and Tron-like lines running around the edges of the dashboard. There are two seats, so space to take a map-reader, but I’m not sure where I’d put the snacks. But this is made up by the way the cockpit opens like a fighter jet to allow entry.
There’s no word of what the powertrain could be, but I assume its an all-electric setup. Hydrogen may be too dangerous for this behemoth, so maybe there’s a battery running across the floor.
Yeah, okay, so this is cool. And likely very expensive but would make for an incredible Grand Tour car. Ford, we’re looking at you, please do it.
