Video: Jay Leno Drives The 2020 C8 Corvette Stingray Z51
The C8 Corvette was difficult to approach. For one, the main difference from the previous iterations, it was mid-engined. But after the reviews were carried out by people who know what they’re doing, it’s become apparent that apart from that, it hasn’t changed much at all.
It’s faster, with the Z51 spec receiving 495bhp and 470lb ft of torque, resulting in a 0-60mph time of around 2.8 seconds, whilst still retaining the character of a Corvette. The mid-mounted V8 doesn’t rev overly high, in fact, it might be the lowest revving mid-engined car yet, and it even smells like a GM when you sit in it. But thanks to its new engine setup, it’s handling is improved, as is its ride quality, over the previous front-engined car.
Also, it may be the one car where it’s more practical to go for the convertible. After all, with the rood down it takes up no boot space, compared to the hard top where the targa needs to be stored in the rear. Food for thought.
Here’s what Jay Leno thinks.
