F1 News: Haas Under Fire From Former Driver – “Currently The Absolute Bottom”

The legendary Ralf Schumacher believes the Haas F1 team needs a substantial overhaul to provide Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen with a car that matches their abilities. In his post-race column for Sky Deutschland, Schumacher didn’t hold back on his thoughts concerning the current plight of the American racing team after the Canadian Grand Prix.

In his column, he wrote, “Nico Hulkenberg experienced a modest race after a strong qualifying session. This is very frustrating for him. Both he and Kevin Magnussen have the potential to finish in the points, but the Haas team has too big a deficit. They’ve gotten to a point where they have to think about what needs to change and restructure. Haas is currently the absolute bottom of the field and that cannot be a situation in the long run.”

At the Canadian Grand Prix, Nico Hulkenberg showcased his talent by securing the second fastest time during the qualifying. Yet, a three-place grid penalty for exceeding speed limits under red flag conditions forced him to start from fifth. Eventually, he ended up in fifteenth, while Magnussen finished seventeenth.

These remarks from Schumacher follow his previous criticism of Haas team principal Guenther Steiner, accusing him of unjust treatment towards his nephew, Mick Schumacher, when he left the team in late 2022.

Schumacher proceeded with his critique, “Team boss Guenther Steiner said at the weekend that he was satisfied with the driver pairing. In doing so, he promised Hulkenberg another year as a regular driver. But the question is: what can Haas offer him? If I were him, I would first ask what steps are being taken to improve the situation. Because one thing is clear, if everything stays the way it is – also in terms of personnel – then not much will change.”
