Swiss Hillclimb Organisers Fined Over Richard Hammond’s Fiery Crash
After Richard Hammond’s fiery crash at a Swiss hillclimb, the organisers of the hillclimb have been fined $5,000.
In a Rimac Concept One, Richard Hammond failed to corner successfully, resulting in his electric supercar being flung off the side of the track and coming to a stop upside down. Richard, with a fractured knee, pulled himself out of the wreckage and got free just before it caught fire.
Hammond, not being an active participant of the event, did ‘show runs’ on the hillclimb track alongside co-presenters Clarkson and May who were driving a Lamborghini Aventador and a Honda NSX respectively.
The Swiss authority on motorsports, Auto Sport Schweiz, has fined the organisers with the ruling that they weren’t abiding by FIA International Sporting Code and were acting against the interests of the sport itself.
A fine equal to $5,141 was handed to the Swiss hillclimb event organisers, with race bans given to race director Christian Muller and Hermann Muller, Karl Marty and Daniel Lenglet who are three sports stewards.
Because of the fine and the international visibility of the accident, it is a possibility that the event itself may cease to continue.
