Social media has been buzzing this last week as fans of Amazon’s The Grand Tour have started noticing little goodies showing up in their mailboxes. With the massive success of Season 1, AMaon seems more than eager to show off some numbers regarding the making of The Grand Tour. Some of these stats make perfect sense while a few other surprised me a bit when I saw them.
For starters, 4,000 miles driven throughout the entirety of Season 1 seems a bit low, doesn’t it? I’m not saying I don’t believe the number; after all, Amazon has no reason to fudge the distance driven. But for a show called “The Grand Tour,” it seems that number should be higher. Just the Namibia episode felt like they were driving forever. But, when I stop to think about it, the actual number of times they drove without stopping for some shenanigans was actually pretty low, so I feel a bit better about that number.

I’m going to assume when they say “300 coffees per day, per shoot,” they mean for all the cast and crew, not just the boys. That would be quite the accomplishment, wouldn’t it? Though as a parent to a 5 year old and a 3 year old, 300 coffees per day doesn’t sound nearly enough. As for the 150 cars used, I’m just going to take their word for it. I don’t think I’m going to go through all the episodes again just to count the number of cars, especially since there are a bunch that I’m sure we don’t even see on camera.
The thing that amazes me the most are the stats regarding the tent; 48 tons of weight and 1,980 pieces in the electrical kit. The tent always looked massive and complicated on screen, but it’s mind blowing just how incredible their traveling tent really is. Take into account that the tent itself with all that weight and so many piece has basically traveled the world in such a short span of time, and it really is an amazing feat.
And finally, 3 friends. Awwwwwwww. I guess they boys really do mean a lot to each other, even when they’re throwing rubber penises at Jeremy.
