Watch The World’s Fastest AWD 1/4 Mile That James May Needs To Drive

The Nissan GTR is no stranger to a drag race. Nicknamed the ‘supercar killer’ due to its incredible talent of beating supercars worth three, even four times as much as itself on the quarter mile and being known for its lofty bang for buck status, it’s managed to build quite a reputation.

Because of this, tuning companies swamped to the GTR and were soon extracting 1000+hp from its twin turbocharged 3.8 litre V6.

AMR was one of these companies – picking up the GTR in 2010. This year the Chicago-based tuning company made history by achieving a quarter mile time of 6.937 at 196.27mph with their 2500hp GTR.

This almost didn’t happen however, as the car endured an engine fire, giving them two days to perform a complete engine swap. There are even claims that it was on its third engine by the time it posted the time.

They posted this to their Facebook account to announce their triumphant accomplishment. Watch the video above to see their record breaking run. The tension was so thick, you could cut it with a knife!

If you’re a fan of James May, then you know that he REALLY loves the GTR. I would love to see him pilot this one or similar on the next season of The Grand Tour. You can watch James fall in love with the GTR in the video below!

James says, “it’s literally the most amazing car in the world, ” as he reverses onto the Top Gear test track. He gathers his thoughts and courage, engages launch control and plants his foot.

“Bloody hell! That is spectac… I’m gonna do that again, hang on!

“I’ve never gone off the line that well in a car, not a car with launch control or anything. That’s terrific!”

James I know, isn’t the fastest driver, but the car is so fast it hits the rev-limiter before he can hit the gear shift paddle. Of course, being Captain Slow he reverts back to the arithmetic and how incredible the ECU must be to calculate all the variables almost instantaneously to perform such a launch.

“Do you know I think I shall have one of these.” He says.

Right, AMR. Please give James a go in your GTR. He’ll try his best not to crash it. Honest.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: alex@grandtournation.com
