Jeremy Clarkson’s First Ever Appearance on Top Gear
I’d go as far to say that Jeremy Clarkson has become a household name. If you didn’t already know him from Top Gear, the most viewed ‘factual’ TV show in the world, then you’d definitely know him from one of his past ‘altercations’. Most likely his latest fracas with Top Gear producer Oisin Tymon, but he’s also had a go at Piers Morgan back in 2004.
There was a time however, where he wasn’t so well known, and didn’t have his Yorkshire dialect.
Take a trip down memory lane and re-watch his first appearance on Top Gear in 1988 alongside Jeremy. Try not to cringe as much as he does!
This wasn’t the Top Gear we all know and love. Back then, Jeremy wore a suit and tie, used a shoddy tea and scone British accent, and didn’t say things like “power!” or “… in the world!”. He didn’t have his two sidekicks either, they wouldn’t arrive until much later, neither would the studio. So Jeremy made do with what he had, in this case a two door Rolls that’d been modifi…wait, sorry… I mean ‘Cooperised’.
Only three years later we get a hint of the current Jezza, with his leather jacket and Yorkshire accent now unveiled and the… Afro?? I suppose it was the early 90s. We’ll let him have that, he has given us hours and hours of free entertainment after all. But I’m glad he’s settled on an old shirt and jeans. And a haircut!
We’ll leave it to May to bring the interesting fashion choices to the trio.
