Bugatti’s Next Model Will Be an SUV

A second line of models will soon be erupting from the doors of Bugatti, but it won’t be a supercar ready to steal records, nor will it be a sports car ready to steal our hearts at the track. Instead, Bugatti are following in the footsteps of other automakers such as Porsche, Ferrari, and Lamborghini, and are producing an SUV.

Switching plans from their four-door Galibier saloon which was going to be based on an elongated Chiron chassis, they’ve instead decided to follow the recent popular trend of producing an SUV after watching saloon sales fall across the industry. As we all know, SUV sales have boomed in recent years with many automakers using them as cash cows to fund their higher performance models.

Bugatti CEO Stephan Winkelmann says the following:

“We would look at every body style and regional demand, and not put our money into something that is fading.”

So that means goodbye to the saloon and hello to the SUV. This is unfortunate as the rendering by X-Tomi Design (shown above) really makes us yearn for a Chiron saloon.

It’s still unclear as to whether Bugatti will be producing a new chassis to hone this model or build upon the Chiron’s existing underbelly, but it’s safe to say that it will be fast, luxurious, and powerful. And of course will have a higher ground clearance to allow slight off-roadability. Whether it will ever be used off-road is another matter.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
