The Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Spyder Is Pure S*x For The Ears
There are few things in life that give me the same smile as the roaring V8 of the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Spyder (bit of a mouthful). It’s name is Italian for ‘Flying Saucer’, but while it’s bodywork is a thing of curvaceous, retro, spaceship-like beauty, it’s based on the more normal, but still gorgeous Alfa 8C, and its 444bhp 4.7 litre V8 doesn’t quite have the whistle of the third kind flying over.
Instead, it’s raucous, angry and crackling. Exactly the sound a V8 should have. Coupled with numbers in the region of 4.5 seconds to 62mph and a top speed of 180mph, there’s not much to dislike about this Italian sports car.
The Italians even boast that it has a noise level of between 24 and 50dB when cruising. At 112mph. We love you Alfa. We really do.
We adore Alfa, especially the snarling Quadrifoglio which was highly praised by Jeremy Clarkson (and everyone else in the industry) on The Grand Tour.
