This Mitsubishi Eclipse Red Demon Is The Fastest Manual Car In The World – 1,800HP And 7 Second Quarter-Mile
Stick shifts are fun, aren’t they? There’s nothing like the feeling of slamming a car down a couple of gears with accompanying blips to the throttle and lighting up the revs. But the time it takes you to change gear, a computer could have done that in a fraction of the time it took you, so it’s not a surprise that the fastest cars are automatics.
Except for this Mitsubishi Eclipse. It’s got 1,800hp running at 85psi, and it’s got a manual gearbox. It still, after many years of running on rag strips across the US, hold the title for fastest manual car in the world. No wonder they call it the Red Demon.
Its body has been smoothed and sculpted for allow for as little drag as possible, and it runs fat tyres in both the front and rear. Of course it’s equipped with parachutes to bring the car to a stop after the run, in which it will decimate at a personal best of 7.04 on the quarter mile.
Under the hood is a Bullet Race Engineering Billet 4G63 block. Take a look at it being prepped last year in this video below.
The owners expect it to hit an even faster PB later on, so we’ll keep you updated on this incredible machine.
