Charles Leclerc Shares First Impressions of Ferrari SF24 After Initial Test

Charles Leclerc provides insights into the Ferrari SF24 following his initial laps, highlighting improvements in drivability while remaining cautious about its competitive prospects.

Key Takeaways:

  • Leclerc acknowledges significant improvements in drivability with the SF24 compared to its predecessor.
  • The SF24 undergoes a comprehensive overhaul across various components, signaling Ferrari’s commitment to enhancing performance.
  • Further testing is deemed crucial by Leclerc to accurately assess the SF24’s competitiveness and potential.

Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz recently took to the Fiorano circuit for the first laps in Ferrari’s latest creation, the SF24. This initial outing marks the beginning of a rigorous testing phase aimed at refining the car’s performance ahead of the new Formula 1 season.

The SF24 represents Ferrari’s response to the shortcomings of its predecessor, the SF-23, which struggled with inconsistency and sensitivity to track conditions. With a renewed focus on aerodynamics, handling, and reliability, the SF24 aims to put Ferrari back on the path to success.

Following his initial stint behind the wheel, Leclerc expressed optimism about the SF24’s improved handling. In a statement to the media, he remarked:

“I remember that after the first lap last year, or it was the first three [or] four laps, I wasn’t really happy with the behaviour of the car. The car was very, very difficult to drive. This year, the car feels healthier and in a better place.”

However, Leclerc was cautious not to equate improved drivability with guaranteed competitiveness. He emphasized the need for further evaluation, stating:

“On the other hand, and I want to push on the point, that doesn’t mean anything on the competitiveness of the car because if other teams have done bigger steps forward in terms of lap time gains, then it can be an easier car to drive, but if it’s not fast enough, it won’t be fast enough on track.”

As Ferrari continues testing, the focus remains on translating promising initial impressions into consistent performance on race day. The feedback from Leclerc and Sainz, coupled with ongoing developments, will play a pivotal role in shaping Ferrari’s fortunes in the upcoming season.
