F1 Fans React To Charles Leclerc’s Classic Ferrari Crash: “That Tells You How Easy It Is To Drive F1 Cars Nowadays”
Charles Leclerc has crashed Niki Lauda’s Ferrari F1 car during the Monaco Historic Grand Prix weekend, and while fans were happy to see that it was only a small shunt and that the Monégasque driver was safe, many have lashed out at the reasoning behind the incident.
“I lost the brakes. I lost the brakes!” Leclerc said when he reached the pit straight according to ex-F1 driver Jacky Ickx.
“I braked, the pedal was hard, and it went to the floor.
“I was lucky to have it at that moment, because if I had had it at another place, it was no good… the problem is that I got scared. I arrived normally in the corner.”

“That tells you how easy it is to drive F1 cars nowadays,” one Twitter user said on the crash. “Drivers today are not even close in terms of skills compared to past drivers.”
Another responded:
“Just maybe it’s because of failing brakes, which has been confirmed by Ferrari,” they noted. “Sometimes brakes fail, it happens. But just to prove yourself right, if the new cars are so easy to drive, go and set a representative lap time somewhere in an f1 car.”
Another added that they’re enjoying the fact that these cars are being used compared to the modern cars:
“No worries at all. Just great to see these cars being used rather than the rubbish they race at the moment,” they wrote. “I take more issue with Charles’ name being sharpie penned in block letters to the side of the car to be honest…”
One fan noted the size difference between the 1974 Ferrari 312 B3 and the current cars:
“Okay but those cars are tiny compared to today’s! Looks like a go kart!”

“Yep and yet people blame Monaco when the FIA made the cars the size of buses.”

While no one wants to see a historic crash, if you can afford to buy a vintage racing car and bring it to Monaco to race, you can afford to fix it

As you can see from the photo on the tweet above, the front left brake pad fell away from the car completely, so when Leclerc braked for the right turn, it sent him into a spin.

Hopefully the Ferrari driver will have better luck at the Monaco GP a few weekends from now. With him not yet finishing a Monaco race so far in his F1 career, it will be an exciting moment to have the driver potentially take first place at the most famous track of the calendar.
