F1 News: AlphaTauri continues its battle against Haas in Mexico
After a sequence of years competing fiercely in the midfield, AlphaTauri finds itself in the lowly position of ninth in the standings.
Despite showing flashes of performance, the AT03 lacks the consistency of reliability to score points on a race-to-race basis – and AlphaTauri has paid the price for this.
Still, the team will work to salvage something from this season by trying to finish ahead of Haas in the standings.
Speaking in AlphaTauri’s Mexico preview, Tsunoda outlined some of the team’s expectations:
“Even if it does not help for the championship’s fight with Haas, it was a nice surprise to get the extra points for 9th place in Austin, especially starting down in 19th place on the grid because of the grid penalty.
“It was quite a tough race physically, but also good fun in the car, with a few nice overtakes as well.
“Overall, last weekend, we looked quite competitive in the midfield, even if Qualifying was the weak point over the three days…
“Last year, I qualified in the top ten, but had to start at the back because of an engine change, and then my race ended with a collision on the first lap, which was a shame.
“We need to have a good clean weekend, as we have to aim to score more points in the last three races of the year.”
