F1 News: George Russell Talks Mercedes Result At Dutch Grand Prix
George Russell had a lucky race taking P2 at the Dutch Grand Prix with his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton finishing fourth after losing out to a poor strategy.
Pitting during the safety car during the last portion of the race and fitting soft tyres, George Russell lost his place to Max Verstappen as he came out in 3rd when the green flags were waved once again. This removed the Mercedes buffer between Hamilton and the Red Bull, which eventually pushed Hamilton from 1st to 4th.
Russell reflected on his race in the post-race interviews after finishing the race in 2nd place:
“Firstly, thanks to the crowd. We like to keep it close,” Russell said, discussing the overtake between him and Hamilton.
“As a team today we showed incredible pace, it wasn’t the team result we had hoped for but it will give us lots of confidence going forward. It’s incredible to see three different teams on the podium, and we are getting closer to the top step.”
