Formula 1 team Haas has had plenty of drama over the last week or so from terminating its contract with its main sponsor Uralkali to removing its Russian driver Nikita Mazepin. Today it’s gotten worse for the American-owned team as it’s been confirmed that it will miss the first day of testing thanks to delays at Istanbul airport.
Fortunately, the team was able to load its cargo on Tuesday after it was stranded in the UK in Doncaster, but while the team arrived in the Middle East last night, they still have to prepare for the testing ahead of them in Bahrain. If they want to start testing with the rest of the grid on Thursday, they’ll have to pull their fingers out, but this is doubtful.
A spokesperson from Haas released a statement today that confirmed that the cargo has arrived in Bahrain, but confidence is low that they’ll start testing on time:
“I can confirm our freight arrived late last night to the circuit in Bahrain.
“This delay will impact our programme but we are targeting being out on track for the second session Thursday afternoon with Pietro Fittipaldi driving the VF-22. I have no other updates at this time.”
This has happened as fans await a press conference with Nikita Mazepin which we hope will dive into what happened between him and Haas as they cancelled his contract with the team.
This was the driver’s most recent statement:

“Dear fans and followers,” Mazepin posted to Twitter.
“I am very disappointed to hear that my F1 contract has been terminated. While I understand the difficulties, the ruling from the FIA plus my ongoing willingness to accept the conditions proposed in order to continue were completely ignored and no process was followed in this unilateral step.
“To those who have tried to understand, my eternal thanks. I have treasured my time in F1 and genuinely hope we all be together again in better times.
“I will have more to say in the coming days.”
More to come as we edge closer to Mazepin’s conference later today.
