Jeremy Clarkson Expresses His Thoughts On Elon Musk: “Why Couldn’t He Call His Child John?”
It’s fair to say that Elon Musk and his company Tesla has had quite the history with Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May, and their TV show Top Gear. Now, over ten years since Tesla attempted to sue Top Gear, the presenters give their take on the CEO.
Top Gear’s Fight Against Tesla: Jeremy Clarkson Clarifies Exactly What Happened
In 2008, Top Gear broadcasted a film on the Tesla Roadster where they reviewed it quite negatively. They showed it running out of charge much earlier than it was expected to, reducing its own power due to overheating, and explained that the brakes had broken. All of which was true.
Tesla looked to sue Top Gear over defamation, but failed. They then appealed, but failed again. So it’s no shock that this leaves a bad taste in Jeremy’s mouth.
When asked about Elon Musk, CEO of the Californian electric car company, Clarkson responded with the following:
“Well, the man sued me once and lost. And then he appealed and lost that.
“Also, I don’t know what the matter is… Why didn’t he call his child John of Jane or whatever?”
The camera flicks over to May who’s asked the same question:
“Yes, overall,” he says, “I find Elon Musk very interesting and I have one of his cars.”
May bought a Tesla Model S a year or so ago during an exploration into the world of electric vehicles.
“I can see why he winds some people up. Some people think his business practices are nefarious, but I don’t really understand business so I don’t know if they are or not.
‘I just see a bloke with interesting ideas having a joint.”
Richard Hammond is the last to speak on the subject:
“I like Elon Musk, I think he belong in like, a comic.
“I think he’s a sort of superhero made real. The world needs people like that, with huge amounts of money doing crazy things.”
Tesla has been a question that comes up a lot with Jeremy especially, with him talking to Mashable about his initial Roadster review only a couple of years ago.
It will, I’m sure, continue to be a relevant subject for the trio as time goes on.
