Jeremy Clarkson Reveals Painful Surprise Behind Alpine F1 on Monaco Grand Prix Wager
As Esteban Ocon clinched a podium place at the Monaco Grand Prix for the first time this season, a wager made in jest by television icon Jeremy Clarkson took on a serious note. During the high-adrenaline race, the well-known host of shows like Top Gear and The Grand Tour made an audacious bet. He vowed to provide a pint of beer to every member of the Alpine team if Ocon could bring home a podium position for the Enstone-based team. As luck would have it, Ocon did exactly that.
This podium finish prompted the TV presenter to repay his debt in a grand manner. Given the proximity of the Alpine factory to his farm in the Cotswolds, he made the journey to Enstone on his Lamborghini tractor, a sight familiar to fans of Clarkson’s Farm, another hit show of his. The beer he brought with him was not just any beer. Each bottle was a product of his farm, Hawkstone Lager, adding a personal touch to his fulfilment of the bet.

However, the task proved to be bigger than he had originally anticipated. The Alpine team, comprising almost a thousand people, led to an unexpected large-scale distribution of beer. To aid in this huge undertaking, Ocon himself was on-site, assisting Clarkson in his spirited beer handout.
In a column for The Sun, Clarkson recalled his wager:
“Halfway through the recent Monaco Grand Prix, I put out a tweet saying that if my local team, Alpine, finished on the podium, I’d give everyone on the team a pint of my Hawkstone lager. Well, their driver Esteban Ocon did finish on the podium, so I called to ask how many pints I should drop round to the factory. Fifty? A hundred? Nope. It’s just shy of a thousand.”
