James May: The Grand Tour Was “Hazardous”, But Cooking Was Still High Pressure In ‘Oh Cook’

James May has detailed what makes his new cooking show, Oh Cook, so interesting compared to The Grand Tour. This comes only a week after the Amazon car show released its trailer for its next episode, named The Grand Tour Presents: A Massive HuntOh Cook, also released to Amazon Prime Video, has received countless praising reviews, and has been available to stream since the 12 and 13 November in the US and UK respectively.

In an interview with The Express, May explained that while The Grand Tour is the more “hazardous” of the two, Oh Cook still had its moments of high pressure.

“On the whole, (Oh Cook) was less hazardous, I suppose.

“And people expect me to know what I’m doing and what I’m talking about if I’m driving a car, I don’t think anybody thinks I’m particularly well versed in cooking or you know, I’m not an authority.

“But in a lot of ways, the kitchen is quite high pressure because it all happens in real-time, cooking.

“You can’t really uncook something, once you’ve put the egg into poach, you can’t say, ‘well, I’ll just take that out and do that bit again.’”

He continued: “You’ve got to keep going or you’ve got to start the whole thing again, which we didn’t want to do.

“And also, everybody there is trying to tell you how to do it and it’s actually quite fractured in the way the kitchens are.

“That’s true even if you’re not filming. If you’re trying to cook and you’ve got a lot of people interfering that is – I’m sure most domestic fights start either in the kitchen or around the TV remote control.”

The Grand Tour heads to Madagascar in the next episode, where the trio find themselves looking for lost pirate treasure at the wheels of three modified cars, a Bentley Continental GT, a Ford Focus RS, and a Caterham. Each of these cars have been modified to take on the awful roads of the country – apparently the worst roads in the world – and look brilliant while doing so.

It will be released December 18th later this year, and you can watch the trailer for A Massive Hunt below.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
