Top Gear: Remembering When Jeremy Clarkson Was Chased By An Apache Helicopter
We’re feeling nostalgic here at Grand Tour Nation and as such, we’ve decided to take a look at back across the years and bring you a series of the best moments from Jezza, Hamster and Captain Slow’s tenure on the legendary BBC show – Top Gear.
To kick things off, we’re going back a real long way, 16 years back to 2004 in fact, to the first episode of the series, and specifically their segment on the Lotus Exige.
Well if you’ve read the title, then you probably know what comes next, but if not.. it’s pretty simple, Clarkson’s about to get hunted by one of the most technologically advance military helicopters to ever grace the earth. All he’s got to protect him is his Lotus Exige.
You might think that the Lotus Exige has got no hope against such a powerful Apache, but as Clarkson so eloquently puts it:
“The Lotus Exige is like putting a Saturn 5 rocket in a food blender”
Even if the Lotus is like a rocket in a blender, it doesn’t take anything away from the fact that the apache can identify a frightening 256 targets from 8 kilometres away, pick out the 16 biggest threats and then eliminate them all.. in seconds. The Lotus Exige on the other hand can do 0-60 in what seems like a measly 5 seconds and has a “massive” 189 horsepower being produced through its 1.8 litre engine.
Can you remember if Jeremy avoids what seems like almost certain death? Well check out the below video to find out!
