2021 Toyota Supra Boasts More Powerful Engine At Cost Of Fuel Economy

Fans of the Toyota Supra will be pleased to know that the 2021 model has been updated with a powerful new version of the turbocharged inline-six as well a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. As with everything in this world, there is a catch – the 2021 Supra models new engine means that while it produces 382hp, the miles per gallon has fallen to 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the motorway.

The previous model in 2020 produced only 335 hp but produced a slightly higher fuel economy with 24mpg for city driving and 31mpg on the motorway. Don’t get us wrong, the efficiency of the engine was never great, but it is still better than the likes of a Porsche Cayman and the BMW M2.

The 2021 Supra’s engine is the same piece of kit that can be found in the Z4 M40i – as well as this, Toyota has also revisited the chassis and has added lightweight braces made from aluminium which tie the radiator support to the strut towers. Other additions to the new model, slated for release next year, include adaptive dampers, revised differential and stability control.

The 2020 Supra hits 0-60 in approximately 3.8 seconds, but the new model and its more powerful engine, should reach a quicker 0-60 time. We’ll be testing that out for you don’t worry.
