In recent months, the Chrysler Pacifica has been having some manufacturing hiccups, with production coming to a halt throughout the entire month of June. The Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada, was temporarily closed down due to the chip scarcity in early September; while demand for the minivan remains high. The Pacifica is now available for purchase again after returning for the 2022 model year with some enhancements and a key new addition to the US lineup.
The people carrier’s two top trim levels, Limited and Pinnacle, will now be available with front-wheel drive as standard. The AWD system will become optional on the Limited and Pinnacle range-topping models to better cater to customers in colder climates. Given that many purchasers in warmer climes don’t require the extra traction of the Pacifica AWD, this change makes sense. As a result of these new front-wheel-drive alternatives becoming available, manufacturers may offer lower prices on vehicles equipped with richer features.
According to MoparInsiders, the 2022 Pacifica will begin at $48,320 for front-wheel drive. Another $1,675 on top of that is required for AWD, bringing the total price to $50,915. The starting price of the top-of-the-line Pacifica Pinnacle is set at $52,775 with power only being sent to the front wheels, and $55,370 will get you the all-wheel-drive system.
For the 2022 model year, the entry-level Touring grade will no longer be available with AWD. Last year, only about two per cent of purchasers went for the Touring AWD option, which prompted the American marque to simplify the Pacifica Touring lineup for the next generation. The FWD and AWD variants of the TourL will continue to be available.
For 2022, virtually every Pacifica variant will be updated, with the Cold Weather Group becoming a standard option. This implies that every 2022 Pacifica will come with heated front seats and a heated steering wheel from the factory. Elsewhere in the lineup, the Touring and Touring L models will receive a rear-seat reminder system, while the Limited grade will get last year’s optional Premium and Safety Sphere Group as standard. As part of its Clean Air Filtration System package, all Pinnacle variants will benefit from improved air filtration.
