Chrysler Trademarks The Name ‘Cuda

I’m sorry for getting your hopes up with the obviously click baity title, but while this may seem like non-news, I get excited (slightly) every time this news hits because I want a modern Barracuda so badly.

Ever since the modern Challenger went on sale back in 2008, rumors have floated around of a Barracuda revival as well. The name was trademarked quite often, even going so far back as 2010, but other than some unfounded rumors and fan made concept art, nothing ever came from Chrysler.

Back in 2015, however, a rumor started floating around that the Barracuda might very well come back, but in a smaller, Challenger based car as opposed to its original muscle form. The same happened to the Dodge Dart, which was once a mid-sized classic but eventually came back as a compact.

And then there’s what happen to the Challenger during the late 70s/early 80s. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the third generation Challenger:

No thank you. If the ‘Cuda is coming back but like that, then I’d rather not have it come back at all. I know models can change at the drop of a hat, but there just seems something wrong with doing it to a model that holds such an iconic status.

It would be like making a Trans Am into a hatchback.

So here we are once again, as Fiat Chrysler trademarks the name ‘Cuda. Chances are we shouldn’t think anything of it, as Chrysler probably just wants to keep any other automaker from using the name. Also, this ensures that Chrysler can use the name on memorabilia; you know, die cast models and such.
