Honda Confirms Production For The New ‘e’ All-Electric Supermini

The first time I met eyes with this Honda concept, I knew I had to own one. It’s small and simple – a modern reflection of the Kei cars of old, and it’s pure electric. But unfortunately, it was a concept car. WAS a concept car…. It’s now named the ‘e’ and will be going into full production for release later this year. Here’s the lowdown.

It has a full-width digital dashboard inside. This is where it will show you the feed from the side cameras. Not side mirrors, cameras. It’s range isn’t amazing at only 125 miles, but power is sent purely to the rear wheels and Honda has teased it to be ‘sporty’. Things are certainly looking good for this little hatch.

With only one gear, there’s no use for a gear stick, so buttons will be used in its place to select drive, reverse, park and neutral etc. The handbrake will also be applied via a button unfortunately, but this is the way of modern cars so, bleh.

The design is sparse but highly calculated. Door handles are flush to the bodywork to not only make the design less bitty, but also to reduce drag. The small side-mounted cameras also have a small footprint, and its side panels are void of width, giving it a well-earned retro feel.

Honda has told us that prices will fall between the Renault Zoe and the BMW i3, putting it snuggly at £24,000. This I could do. So if you’re like me and fancy yourself a retro electric runabout, then head to the Honda website and register your interest now.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
