Jeep Compass: New And Upgraded Model Heads To China With A Possible US Future

The new 2022 Jeep Compass has just been revealed in China after it was initially teased when it was spotted on the road earlier last month, albeit under heavy camouflage. With the 2021 version now being equipped with a turbocharged engine mated to a dual-clutch automatic gearbox for European markets, it’s not had an exterior and interior facelift, and new technology added to its cabin. These changes will likely eventually cross the sea to the US model within the next year or so.

While the Compass retains its overall aesthetic, the front of the car now features a more sculpted grille and shapely, LED headlights to match. The addition of a lower grille also adds to the aggression and makes the SUV look wider and more planted. And while the body design now reflects a more mature Compass, the majority of the changes have happened inside the car.

Sat in the centre of the dashboard is a raised 10.3-infotainment display flanked by black trim and what looks to be higher quality materials. Plus, behind the wheel now sits a 10.1-inch instrument display for excellent data-readout. While lower-end models may feature less impressive systems, the Uconnect 5 infotainment system will be included.

Under the hood now sits a new 1.3-litre turbocharged engine from the Jeep Renegade. In this guise, it produces 177 horsepower, but if turbochargers aren’t your thing, then it’s likely the 180 horsepower 2.4-litre turbo-less four-cylinder engine will still be available for a worldwide market, although we can’t confirm this.

We’ll be sure to bring you updates as we know more about whether this Chinese Compass will be crossing shores any time soon.
