Meet Porsche’s New Starfighter for Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker
With Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker less than a week away, it’s obligatory for them to be pushing the promotions forward. And now the weird hookup with Porsche we wrote about a few months ago has come to fruition so while the film is rumoured to be a bit questionable, let’s drool over Porsche’s latest creation.
This starship from Stuttgart is named the Tri-Wing S-91x Pegasus Starfighter. Did you get that all? It doesn’t exactly slip off the tongue, does it? It’s been created in collaboration with Lucasfilms, and while we know it has a Porsche badge on it somewhere, we can’t see any design cues from the road cars.
Porsche disagrees, saying the front lights and ‘air curtains’ are straight from the new Taycan. And if you look behind R2D2, you’ll spy some vertical slats that are reminiscent of the rear of the 992-generation 911. The German marque also tells us that “the low seating position is reminiscent of the sporty ergonomics in the Porsche 918 Spyder.” Yeah, whatever.
Albeit not looking like a Porsche at all, it’s great to see what the designers of a car company does when they throw away the rulebook and work on something out of this world – literally. It’s sleek and looks like nothing from the Star Wars universe I’ve seen. It almost looks plausible to an extent. Kinda.
There are no stats regarding the performance of this starship, and that’s quite good because I’d have no idea what to do with them. But like all Porsches, it looks fast and more than capable of taking on the Millennium Falcon in the Kessel run (see below).
A 1.5-mitre model of the ship will be displayed in Los Angeles at the premiere of star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker later this month.
