This 2.0-Litre Swapped Ford Escort Is Brutal!

The Ford Escort is a legend in the era of rallying, becoming Champion of the World Cup of Rally in 1970 under Hannu Mikkola’s driving. Nowadays, the majority of them are used as low-budget rally toys, and every once in a while you get a high powered hillclimb version. Much like this one in fact.

This unique Escort has a 2.0-litre V6 straight from a Mondeo Touring Car of the 90s, which means it produces 310HP at a toe-curling 9000rpm. This power goes straight to the rear wheels via a 6-speed sequential ‘box allowing for swift sprints in between the tight corners of a course. Of course, a task that is quite negotiable when the car only weighs 900kg.

Reto Steiner is currently driving this car, and as you can tell, he’s no slouch. He grasps at every horsepower and every inch of grip the car and track allows making it a real spectacle to watch. The video above is filmed at Oberhallau Bergrennen 2018. I must insist that you turn up your speakers.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: alex@grandtournation.com
