This Honda EK Civic Creates 2,000 Horsepower From A Twin-Turbo Chevrolet LSX V8
The Honda Civic powertrain, especially the EK Civic’s powertrain, has incredible potential. And while we love high-performance drag builds with these VTEC hearts, this Civic is far more interesting. Not only does it produce 2,000 horsepower, but it does this from a twin-turbo V8 engine. Yeah, a V8.
Built by Thomas West and Renegade Racing, car photographer Larry Chen was able to get up close and personal with this incredible car, only to find out that it’s powered by the V8 of a Chevrolet C5 Corvette. And now, with plenty of power to its name, the team behind it is aiming for a 6-second quarter-mile and are eventually looking at taking on Ken Block’s very own Hoonicorn.
The car had to undergo some modification at the front for Thomas to be able to shoehorn in the huge engine like a change-up of the front control arms, but the most interesting bit is obviously the powertrain. Wielding a pair of turbos and nitrous, it creates 2,000 horsepower, potentially. It was currently only recorded 1,500 horsepower, but after a new engine, 2,000 is most definitely on the cards.
Inside the car, you’ll find very few changes from the original interior. The car still has all of the lighting and legal bits and pieces such as turn signals. It even has power windows still and the doors haven’t been ripped apart to house a roll cage or the like. But why choose the Civic? Well, West has always loved the Civic, so there was no other choice.
With the main objective of this car eventually being to race Block’s brilliant quick Hoonicorn, we look forward to a video of the two cars facing off. It’s safe to say, this could win, and we’re more than excited to watch the action unfold.
