F1 News: Mario Andretti Teases Major Formula One Announcement Coming Soon
The motorsport community is waiting for the verdict of the potential entry of another team into the Formula One grid, including Andretti Cadillac. As the Expressions of Interest process with the FIA and Formula One Management progresses, FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem showcases his excitement for new teams. He notably commented, “How could I say no to General Motors?” indicating strong prospects for Andretti Cadillac’s inclusion.
Mario Andretti, in a discussion with RacingNews365, provided an update on the situation, expressing anticipation and determination. He said:
“From our standpoint, we’re just going along with the process and trying to fill in all the boxes. We’ve done it all and now it is in [the FIA and F1’s] hands and it is just a waiting situation now, but we should know something shortly. There is not a specific timeline, but we have been told early September [to expect a decision whether to grant entry]. Not only [is coming in in 2025] beneficial, but it is a key factor. That is something that’s been put forward quite strongly and I think it makes sense. At first, [we were targeting] 2024, but as the process dragged on, 2025 became more feasible, and so that is what we are working towards.”
Additionally, with the recent managerial shifts in the Formula One landscape, Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, Helmut Marko, proposed that Andretti should consider purchasing Alpine. This comes after Andretti’s prior contemplation of acquiring Sauber, which didn’t pan out. Addressing this advice, Andretti revealed,
“We’re obviously open to any opportunity. But a lot of it in that respect has been exhausted already quite honestly as far as buying another team.”
The forthcoming decision in September is eagerly awaited, with many hoping to see the Andretti name making a triumphant return to Formula One.
